MHS Dance Classes

 

Moorpark High School offers dance classes from the beginning level to the advanced level. Students learn musical theatre, jazz, hip hop, and ballet technique, as well as have the opportunity to perform in the end-of-the-year recital.

Dance Sampler

Dance Sampler is an exciting experience for students interested in dance. This class is designed to give students a chance to learn new forms of dance, choreograph in groups, work on costuming and lighting designs, and to perform in front of a live audience. The students will analyze, review, and discuss dances they observe in class or at live performances. Students will also develop an understanding of the styles of dance used throughout history. They will increase skill level in jazz, hip hop, and broadway dance technique. 

Intermediate Dance

Intermediate Dance is a great experience for the student with a basic knowledge and skill level to grow into a more advanced level in both areas. This class is designed to give students a chance to perform in dances and choreograph their own routines. The students will also have the opportunity to analyze, review, and discuss dances viewed in class and at live performances. Students will learn different routines in jazz and tap technique and perform in front of a live audience. They will respond to sensory information using vocabulary and skills unique to danced develop a confidence and control in their performance.

Dance Team / Production

Dance Team / Production is provided for the student with intermediate to advanced level of ability. Students may join the team starting their sophomore year, where an audition is required to join the team. The dancers perform all year in jazz, jazz funk, and hip hop routines at football and basketball halftime shows, school rallies, and other school events. They also participate in holiday performances at local elementary schools. These dancers get the opportunity to choreograph their own routines throughout the year, learn routines from professional guest choreographers, and develop their technical skill for future careers in the dance world. Several of the dance team members further their dance career in universities and in the commercial dance world.
